Bittermilk Espresso Martini is a non-alcoholic cocktail mixer built around real, freshly roasted coffee rather than coffee flavoring. Bittermilk partners with Charleston’s Second State Coffee to create a dark-roasted espresso syrup, then layers it with demerara and burnt sugar for depth, cacao from French Broad Chocolate, and a touch of vanilla. The result is robust, bittersweet and chocolatey, with the darker roasted character we want in an Espresso Martini.
Handcrafted in small batches in Charleston, South Carolina, it contains brewed espresso, demerara sugar, burnt sugar, cacao fines, vanilla extract and a few ingredients for texture and balance. It naturally contains caffeine.
Why We Love It
An Espresso Martini should taste like coffee first, and this one does. The combination of freshly brewed espresso, cacao and burnt sugar gives it considerably more depth than a sweet coffee syrup, while the vanilla rounds out the darker edges. It also makes the whole affair wonderfully easy: the coffee, sweetness and chocolate notes are already balanced in the bottle.
Try It With
Espresso Martini: vigorously shake equal parts Bittermilk Espresso Martini and your favorite non-alcoholic spirit with plenty of ice. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass. For a softer drink, shake the mixer with a non-alcoholic bourbon alternative; for something cleaner, use a neutral non-alcoholic spirit. Bittermilk also recommends it simply with soda water for a lighter coffee drink.
Especially good with dark chocolate, tiramisu, chocolate-covered espresso beans, biscotti or anything with hazelnut.
