Noughty Syrah is a non-alcoholic red made from 100% Syrah grown in dry-farmed vineyards in Darling, South Africa, where warm sunshine is tempered by cooling Atlantic breezes. Deep ruby in the glass, it brings ripe red fruit and candied cherry together with crushed black pepper, dried rose petal, and French oak tannins. There’s a pleasant balance between juicy fruit and savory spice, with enough tannic structure to give the wine shape without making it heavy. The finished wine is gently dealcoholized using spun-cone technology under vacuum at low temperature, helping preserve the character of the original wine.
Why We Love It
Noughty has been making thoughtful non-alcoholic wine since long before the category became crowded, and this Syrah shows why the brand has remained such a solid choice. It’s approachable enough for someone just beginning to explore non-alcoholic reds, but the pepper, tannin, and savory character give experienced wine drinkers something to sink their teeth into too. We particularly like this one with food, where the spice and structure come forward and the fruit settles beautifully into the background.
Pour it alongside: pepper-crusted steak with chimichurri, lamb meatballs with harissa and yogurt, wild mushroom and thyme galette, smoky eggplant with tahini and pomegranate, or aged Gouda with sour cherry preserves.
